New Snowtrain Adventure

Experience the shift from sheltered pine forest to the vast Finnmark Plateau — safely and comfortably for everyone. Just 30 minutes from Alta, the journey begins at historic Gargia Lodge.

After a warm welcome, we gather in a traditional Sámi lavvu to hear about local history and the old 18th?century postal route. You’ll then be equipped with a suit, helmet, mittens, boots, and balaclava before stepping into the Arctic.We continue aboard our specially built snowtrain, travelling at a relaxed pace through birch forest and beyond the treeline.

As the landscape opens, you suddenly find yourself on the mighty Finnmark Plateau — an endless, silent expanse shaped by light and weather. Your guide shares stories about life on the plateau and how people have lived here for generations.Returning to Gargia, we end the experience inside the lavvu with coffee and locally made pastries around the fire — a warm finish to an authentic Arctic adventure.
