Spectacular views, beautiful scenery, and living traditions: In the slate mountains of Alta there is a unique place well worth visiting. Come discover where the hard labour of the old days and today’s modern industry work hand in hand. Proud 3rd- and 4th-generation slate workers keep the tradition alive at Pæskatun. Alta's quartzite slate is considered as one of the best (if not the best) slate products in the world and handmade slate souvenirs and gifts can be purchased at the site.

The tour begins at your hotel. We will drive past some of Alta's sights (Northern Lights Cathedral, Alta Church, Alta Museum) on the way up to Pæskatun. When you arrive, your hosts will introduce you to the rich history of the slate industry in Alta, and demonstrate the old and modern versions of the craft. Then it will be YOUR turn to be a "slateworker-for-a-day" and make your own slate souvenir from a piece of this tough and special material. You will have time to marvel at the view of the river valley below before before returning to the starting point.

The tour includes transport from Alta to Pæskatun and back, the guided tour, the slate souvenir, hot beverages and light snacks. If lunch is included in the tour, note that the return time will be one hour later than the no-lunch version.
