Visit a Husky Kennel

At Holmen Husky Lodge, the kennel is more than a place—it’s the heart of everything we do. For over three decades and through two generations, our family has raised and raced Alaskan Huskies bred for endurance, resilience, and heart. In this guided visit, you’ll step behind the scenes of one of Norway’s most respected long-distance sled dog kennels.

Walk through the yard with one of our experienced mushers. Along the way, you’ll meet our dogs— from eager young pups to seasoned athletes—and learn how we train, care for, and build lasting bonds with every member of the team. Around the fire, we’ll share the history of the Alaskan Husky breed, our own racing story, and what it takes to develop dogs capable of crossing mountains and frozen ground for days on end.

This is a hands-on, story-rich experience for those who want to understand not just how sled dogs live—but why they run.

Taste of Horse Riding

If you are a little bit afraid to throw yourself into one of our long trips, and just want a taste, this is the perfect trip for you.

We start by entering the pasture and pick ourselves a horse, bring them back to the farm and start grooming them. When we are all done, we head out into the woods.

You decide the speeds, and we do not have to go fast if you don’t want to, that’s all up to you guys. The horses are as safe as they can be, and you will receive helmets from us. The perfect trip for beginners. We end the trip with a coffee and something to bite on, at the farm porch

Short Horse Experience (1 hour)

Try out this short and easy horse-riding experience. We start with meeting our horses that already have their saddle on. From here we will enter the arena where we show you how to handle the horse.

We Will go through every step with you, from how to mount the horse to how the breaks and start work.
If this is handled good and you feel safe, we will take a short ride in the forest, where you get to put your freshly learned skills at test. We will end up back at the ranch, time to say goodbye top the horses.

Winter Tour of Alta

Alta is a small town, but there are still hidden interesting gems scattered throughout the area. This tour will take you to some of those places, and your own, dedicated guide will help make it a genuinely personal experience for you.

One of our guides from Boreal Adventure will meet you in Alta and take you to the edge of town where the Alta Museum sits along the edge of Alta Fjord, surrounded by ancient rock carvings. The carvings, dating from between 6,000 and 2,000 years ago, show fascinating, fleeting glimpses into the lives of people who lived here after the end of the last ice age. Though the outdoor carvings are covered with snow in the winter, the museum itself has a good sample of carvings and photos of the carvings (including many that are off-limits to the public all year). The rest of the museum has exhibits on local cultural themes, plus a souvenir shop with high quality local products and a coffee shop that serves fresh waffles. Your guide is available to take you through the exhibits or let you explore on your own, or just sit and chat with you about life in Alta and Norway. The museum’s coffee shop has one of the best views of Alta Fjord, so it’s the perfect place to have a relaxing conversation.

Your next stop will be the Northern Lights Cathedral in city center, where your guide will tell you about the history, construction and symbolism of the town’s newest landmark. You’ll see both outside and inside of this unique structure, and then head downstairs to a movie with northern lights form Alta. As part of the tour, your guide will take you around on a short driving tour of Alta, where you can see the historic slate dock and the old Alta Church, the only building in Alta still standing after World War II. You’ll be able to stop for pictures along the way.

Summer Private Tour to Alta Canyon and Power Station

You will be picked up by a guide and drive out with your car/bus to Sautso, the biggest canyon in Northern Europe. The one-hour ride to the canyon will give the guide time to talk with you about life in Alta and Norway, the history of the area, and details about the history and controversy of the dam and the Sami people in the area.

You’ll have time to stop and take some pictures of the stunning canyon view, and then it’s off to the power station itself. Though the facility is currently generating power, all operations are controlled remotely, so you and your guide will very likely be the only people in the huge facility! You’ll descend through a tunnel to the visitor center inside the rock cliff, see a short film produced by the power company, and then head out to walk across the dam itself.

Private Tour to the North Cape

Treat yourself to a North Cape tour without large buses and transit schedules! Travel to North Cape together with an expert guide and listen to stories about Alta and the surrounding during the drive.

Enjoy the beautiful scenery along the road up to the North Cape which takes you through a breathtaking landscape of fjords and mountain plateaus. Then celebrate your arrival at the ”beginning of the world” with sparkling wine and a certificate, manifesting that you visited this special point. And now you have time to explore the fascinating exhibits at the visitor center, to see the famous globe or to enjoy a nice break at the North Cape Café. After that you return to Alta over the wild Finnmarksvidda mountain plain.

Private Tour to Tirpitz Museum

One of our best guides from North Adventure will meet you in Alta and accompany you to Kåfjord. Along the way, they will explain about the history of the area, both in general and specifically regarding the events of the World War.

You’ll stop at the old Alta Church, which survived the destruction of Alta, and at the deep bomb crater at the fjord’s edge where one of the Tall Boy bombs missed its target. Then it’s over the beautiful and architecturally interesting Kåfjord bridge to the Tirpitz Museum. The museum features artifacts from the area and from Tirpitz itself and brings a startling clarity to the participants on both sides of the conflict. Once done at the museum, you’ll stop outside Kåfjord Church (the only other building in the area to survive the war’s destruction) and then head up the coast for a walk along the edge of the fjord to find the ruins of a bunker amid the delightful arctic scenery. Then it’s back to Alta and modern times again.
