We leave the city lights behind and travel north, deep into the Arctic landscape. Here, the nights are long and clear, and the sky has room to breathe. On board, there is plenty of space for everyone — we travel without crowding, so you can relax, stay warm, and enjoy the journey at your own pace. No rush, no stress — just a gentle ride toward darkness and light.

Our local drivers know the land and the weather like the backs of their mittens. They track the clouds, read the forecasts, and rely on experience, intuition, and a touch of Arctic instinct to find the best location each night. There is no fixed route — only a flexible journey guided by the conditions of the moment. When we step out into the night, it is easy to understand why the Northern Lights have always been wrapped in mystery.

Long ago, the Sámi believed the lights were the souls of the departed dancing across the sky, or the spirits of fallen warriors on their way to eternity. The aurora was thought to be powerful and alive, something to be met with respect and silence. It was said that you should not shout, whistle, or wave white objects… for the lights might come closer. Just a legend — or perhaps not?

We do everything we can to find the dancing green lady, but she follows her own rules. The Northern Lights cannot be scheduled. Some nights they fill the sky; on others they appear only briefly — or hide behind the clouds. Still, the journey itself is an experience: quiet roads, open landscapes, crisp Arctic air, and stories that have been passed down through generations.

This tour is for those who value the authentic over the staged. For those who seek comfort without spectacle, mystery without noise — and space to truly experience the moment. Before we set off — a few friendly tips: We are happy to help you find great viewing spots, but this is not a photography workshop. Sometimes the best lens is simply your own eyes.

The bus is warm and cozy, but the Northern Lights live outdoors. Dress like a true northerner: layers, hat, gloves, and winter boots that laugh at the snow. So if you are looking for a calm, comfortable, and authentic Northern Lights experience — with plenty of space, ancient legends, and Arctic atmosphere — the Northern Lights Bus is ready to roll. Warm bus. Cold air. Open landscapes. Old myths. Quiet moments. And perhaps — a glowing curtain of light across the sky. Tours with six guests or fewer are conducted by car.

In the dark, cold air eager dogs stand ready in front of the sleds, full of energy and expectation. They are just waiting for the signal that will set everything in motion. Maybe you can feel the excitement building too. The gate opens, and the dogs rush off. Then silence settles, broken only by paws in the snow and sleds gliding. Above us the Northern Lights can dance across the sky. Will you join?

Imagine the darkness and the clear, cold air. In the kennel a lively pack of Alaskan huskies awaits, jumping and ready for the evening’s adventure. Each dog has its own house with a name tag, and you’ll be given a card with the names of the dogs you’ll be driving. The harnesses are hung and ready, and together we prepare the dog team before departure.

As the gate opens and we glide out into the snow-covered forest, silence settles. Only the sound of the sled on the snow and eager paws break the darkness. The tour goes through forest, across open landscapes and along the Alta River. When the river has frozen, we can also drive out onto the river itself. If we’re lucky, the sky comes alive and the Northern Lights appear above us.

You ride two people per sled and can swap places during the tour if you wish. On clear nights the Aurora Borealis can suddenly dance across the sky as we travel through the forest and along the Alta River. There is no guarantee of seeing the Northern Lights, but nature up here often provides magical moments during the tour.

Back at the kennel you’ll help take care of the dogs before we gather around the fire with hot drinks and homemade baked goods. Here we share stories from life as mushers—about training, racing, and everyday life with our dogs through the Arctic winter.

Your adventure begins with a comfortable pickup from your hotel, the harbor or the Tourist Information Centre. Sit back and enjoy a scenic 30-minute drive through the Arctic landscape as we leave Alta behind and head towards the small and peaceful village of Kviby.

Here, your Arctic adventure truly begins.

On arrival, you will be provided with warm clothing, gloves and a helmet before your experienced guide gives you a thorough safety briefing and explains everything you need to know about operating your ATV. No previous ATV experience is required – your guide will make sure you feel comfortable and confident before setting off.

Then it’s time to ride.

In small groups, follow your guide along the dramatic Arctic coastline, surrounded by mountains, wilderness and the dark northern sky. Kviby is located in an area known for excellent Northern Lights conditions, far from the bright lights of the city.

And then… look up.

On a clear night, you may see the first green glow appear above the horizon. As the Northern Lights begin to dance across the sky, you will find yourself riding through a landscape that feels almost untouched – with the Arctic wilderness stretching endlessly around you.

There is something truly special about experiencing the Northern Lights from an ATV. You are not standing behind a window or watching from a crowded viewpoint. You are out in the Arctic, surrounded by silence, nature and the open sky.

Your guides are professional, English-speaking and deeply passionate about Northern Norway. They know the landscape, the weather and the best places to look for the lights. They are also great storytellers and will share stories about Arctic nature, local life and the culture of the far north along the way.

The Northern Lights are a natural phenomenon and can never be guaranteed. But our guides will always go the extra mile, carefully watching the weather and cloud conditions and choosing the best possible route for the night.

When the adventure comes to an end, we return safely to your pickup location.

When darkness falls over Northern Norway, something begins that can best be described as part adventure, part science project – and just a little bit of madness: The hunt for the Northern Lights. Because yes – finding the aurora is a small science in itself. It’s not just about luck or pretty boots. Especially on cloudy nights, it takes local knowledge, patience, and an eye for nature’s subtle hints.

Sometimes, 200 meters can make the difference between a sky full of dancing lights and… a very dark evening. The adventure begins with a heartwarming visit to some of Northern Norway’s most charming creatures – llamas, alpacas, woolly pigs, and horses. You’ll get the chance to meet, feed, and learn a bit about these friendly Arctic animals before heading out into the night in search of the Northern Lights. As the sky darkens, the real journey begins. In a small, comfortable group – never more than eight people – we set out on a calm, fun, and slightly mysterious chase. Your guide, a true Northern Lights hunter and self-proclaimed weather nerd, reads clouds like others read books and knows exactly where we should go to find nature’s own fireworks.

Along the way, we warm up with hot drinks and a selection of Norwegian delicacies – carefully chosen treats that tell the story of local traditions and northern flavors. Sweet and savory bites – perhaps a little chocolate, something smoked, something unexpected – taste even better under the stars. Because everything feels more magical when there’s laughter in the air, frost on your cheeks, and a touch of anticipation all around. We stop at secret spots where nature breathes, cameras click, and silence falls – until suddenly, the sky explodes into shimmering waves of green light.

Your Northern Lights adventure begins at the Port of Alta or at the Tourist Information, Where we set out together into the Arctic night. Our first stop is the Northern Lights Exibition in the Cathedral – the Perfect introduction to the science, history, and wonder behind the Aurora , setting the stage for the experience ahead. From there, the real chase begins. With a trained Northern Lights guide by your side, we travel to carefully selected viewing spots far form the city lights. Your guide knows exactly where to go for the best chances of clear skies and will help you adjust your camera setting so you can capture the Aurora beautifully.

With warm drinks in hand, we settle in and watch the night sky, waiting for the unforgettable moment when the first green glow appears. And when the Northern Lights begin to dance above us, you’ll experience on of nature’s most breathtaking shows in complete comfort. The tour concludes with a smooth return to the Port of Alta or the Tourist Information – enriched by an evening of Arctic magic and memories you’ll carry with you long after the lights fade.

The tour is adapted to weather conditions to give you the best possible chance of experiencing the aurora. We offer private tours or small groups tours for 2-4 people. With us, you can expect high quality and safe transport.

During the trip, you’ll learn about the Northern Lights and Local history from Alta. Hot drinks and light snacks are served along the way. This tour requires warm clothing and safety equipment if you don’t have your own, you can borrow it from us. If you’re traveling with children who cannot ride on the snowmobile, we also have a sled with room for two passangers.

Although we cannot guarantee seeing the Northern Lights, we will do our very best to make it a memorable and enjoyable experience form your visit to Alta.

Join us on an exciting Northern lights Tour as we chase the spectacular lights show across the nights sky. The tour begin at 19:00, and we drive to carefully selected locations where the chances of seeing the Aurora are highest. Our route is planned based on weather conditions and Aurora Forecasts to give you the best possible experience. Along the way, you’ll enjoy warm drinks and snacks while we wait for the light to appear. With small groups of maximum six guests, you get a personal experience and plenty of space for photography. Your guide will share insight about the phenomenon and offer help tips for capturing the Aurora on camera. After an evening filled with Arctic nature and unforgettable moments, we return to the starting point after about four hours. This tour is perfect for both adventure seekers and those who want a comfortable, yet authentic Northern Lights experience.

Experience the magical winter landscape and the spectacular fun of snowmobiling. If you are lucky the Northern Lights will be dancing above, you during the evening.

Join an unforgettable snowmobile safari above the Arctic Circle and experience true arctic wilderness and remoteness on Finnmarksvidda, Europe’s largest mountain plateau. Upon arrival at Gargia Lodge we will start the evening with an informative brief, where we’ll give you an understanding of the phenomenon and what we can expect on today’s excursion.

The tour will take you through a snow-covered forest all the way up to the Beskades Mountain range, the beginning of Finnmarksvidda. If we are lucky, we will get to see the magnificent northern lights dancing across the sky on our trip or be treated with a beautiful arctic night sky. Even though this tour is not focused on hunting the Northern Lights, being outside on a dark winter evening might give a wonderful opportunity to witness the lights while going out on this adventure

The Northern Lights are one of the most impressive natural phenomena Norway has to offer. On our trip we hope to see some. We set up our camp away from the crowded villages to have a clear view of the sky. Our guide has some exciting stories and facts about the Aurora Borealis which he will be happy to share with you.

About the tour:
The tours are highly weather dependent, therefore our guide decides which region of Vesterålen he/she would like to travel, where he/she sees the best chances of aurora sighting. Driving distances up to 1 hr for the outward and also for the return journey can occur. If we see the northern lights first on the way back, we can extend the tour by one hour without extra costs (except for the bus).
