This riverboat experience maneuvers through the river and the river wilderness to the first major rapid, Pahtakoski. Alta River is one of the world’s best salmon rivers – even the King of Norway come here every year to fish.

With the company of a striking landscape and a local guide, you will get to hear stories around the river and get even closer to what Alta is all about. All while experiencing the rushing river.

Experience an exciting King Crab Tour from Fiskerihavna (harbor) to the crab field in Alta Fjord with Icecube of Aurora. Join us on a 2,5-hour tour and witness the capture of the popular King Crab. The King Crab is caught in a box-shaped trap called a “pot,” which is then hoisted up from the sea and onto the boat. You can observe the captain at work, as he has done this many times before.

You will have a chance to birdwatch, enjoy the varied and fascinating coastline, and maybe even see dolphins dancing near the boat. You will learn about some of the colorful local history along the way, including stories about the local mining industry and from World War II.

Traveling against the current of the Alta River and powering through exciting rapids, this journey takes you to the farthest possible point in the river by riverboat.

The trip up the river starts in a green, lush forest landscape of pine, and aspen, with low hills, houses, and farms on the riverbank. Along the way, you might even catch a glimpse of golden eagels hovering over the treetops.

This is the longest riverboat experience conducted by Sorrisniva. It follows the river as it winds through the wilderness and passes over several rapids. Whilst the rapid passages are exciting our river boatmen ensure your safety. The safari passes through the Alta Canyon which is the largest river canyon in Northern Europe.
Dress in warm clothes as the river water is cold creating cool breezes. Upon your return to Sorrisniva you will be offered refreshments including coffee and tea.

We offer rental of canoes and kayaks. Choose between stiff polyethylene canoes or foldable (Bergans Alley) canoes, and single or double kayaks. Life jackets and oars are included.

Equipment and Prices (all are per day):

The above prices for boats include oars and life jackets. The client is liable for any damage or abnormal wear and tear. Equipment may be collected at the rental office; delivery and collection to another location around Alta can be arranged for an extra cost of NOK 300.

Traveling along the Alta River by canoe is the ideal way to connect with nature. The sights both close up and far away provide a spectacular backdrop to a fun ride.

Paddling in a canoe involves good nature-based experiences and mastery, as well as cooperation and good parners. As you can`t paddle a canoe alone, one of the joys of canoeing is the shared experience – laughing together, having fun and talking and paddling at the same time.

When it comes to the actual paddling, the Alta River has many calm sections, but you will also encounter occasional waves and rapids. Accidens may happen and the canoe may overturn. However, this is not dramatic because all paricipants have life jackets, and we have gone through how to act in the various situations that may arise. Its also something you can laugh about together aterwards around the fire while your socks re drying. In such cases, its wise to have an extra change of clothes. In the summer, the water temperature is milder (up to 16 C) and the water level is low so that the current is not too strong.

Embark on a mesmerizing journey through the enchanting forests of Alta, where the allure of outdoor life in Finnmark awaits. As you set foot on the trail leading to Orvvosfossen, be prepared to be captivated by the natural wonders that surround you. The trail meanders through a rich tapestry of trees, offering a glimpse of the untouched beauty of this forested realm. Following this path for approximately 2 km, you will find yourself standing in Front of the magnificent Orvvosfossen waterfall.

Its powerful cascades create a mesmerizing spectacle, as water flows gracefully over rugged rocks, harmonizing with the surrounding nature. On the way we ascend about 150 meters, so we get an ever-better view over the valley. The trail is clear in the terrain, and it is good to walk on. At the waterfall we have the opportunity to go almost all the way towards it and take a good break to enjoy the waterfall and nature in here.

Short day trips with accommodation at a hotel/mountain lodge/in a tent

Accommodation Thon Kautokeino:
With Kautokeino as a starting point, you can take day trips for fishing several different types of fish. In the area there are trout, char, pike and grayling, and you have the possibility of a new personal record for all these types of fish. You will need transport from the hotel out to the start of the tour to reach the various fishing grounds. How many days and how varied you want to fish can be adjusted.We adapt the trips according to your wishes, what kind of fish you are looking for, how much time you have available and how you want to get there. Through partners, we can offer trips by seaplane, ATV, car, or the good old way of getting around: hiking. You arrange the plane tickets to Finnmark and we arrange the rest.

Includes:
Transport Transport Alta – Kautokeino. Transport to and from the fishing grounds (every day).

Requirements for personal equipment:
Suitable hiking clothes and fishing rod (I can equip approx. 5 people with fishing equipment. We have to buy lures in advance as we use something different than they do in Europe).

Come join us for an evening cruise out on the dramatic and breathtaking Alta Fjord. You’ll cruise out along the sparkling water under a huge sky, surrounded by low mountains dotted with tiny towns and occasional houses, and Alta off in the distance.

As evening descends, the setting sun will light the sky on fire – arctic sunsets are things of majesty. Is it June or July? Then you get the midnight sun casting vibrant colors on the surrounding mountains. A cloudy night? Look for the setting sun to shine dramatic beams down through the clouds onto the gray and challenging water. Along the way, there will be food and drink, and as you cruise and wait for the setting sun, you can take refuge from the wind and play fun games with the other guests or hear stories from the captain about the local area. You will return to shore around midnight, either in the full daylight of midsummer or the gloom of the outer months.

Sunsets and specific kinds of weather cannot be guaranteed – the tour will be fun, but every day’s weather will be different.

Icecube of Aurora is a local tourist fishing boat, engaging in adventurous trips in the Alta fjord. On fishing trips, you can catch cod, coalfish, haddock, redfish, Atlantic halibut or even salmon. Beverage is included in the tour. Fish that you catch can be filleted and packaged before departing the boat.
