A 3-hour guided tour in the Altafjord. Ever since the last ice age people have been living in the Altafjord and the cultural heritage are many and diverse. A meeting ground for many different cultures has sett its mark on the land. Combined with the arctic wildlife, and especially the whales, we have a unique tour about living in the arctic.

This time of year, large shoal of herring enters the fjord and with them a large numbers of whales. Mink whale and orcas are the most common. By car we are able to cover the whole westside of the fjord and hopefully see the whales for solid ground. This tour is perfect for those who want to see whales but don’t want to be in a boat.

Experience the fascinating beauty of Northern Norway on a scenic round trip along the Altafjord. This tour combines spectacular nature, intriguing history, and charming coastal villages.

After a short drive through Alta, our journey first takes us to Kåfjord, a small but highly significant village located about 20 minutes from Alta. Despite its size, Kåfjord played an important role during World War II and is best known as the anchorage of the German battleship Tirpitz. Today, visitors can learn about this fascinating history while enjoying the beautiful scenery of the fjord and the surrounding mountains.

Afterwards, we continue our journey towards Talvik. There, we will stop at the marina for a short photo opportunity. From the waterfront, visitors can enjoy beautiful views of the fjord, the surrounding mountains, and the charming village atmosphere that makes Talvik such a special place along Altafjord.                   

From Talvik, we continue to Isnestoften, a cozy fishing village on the Altafjord. At the pier, we serve coffee and hot juice while you enjoy the fresh sea air, admire the view, and soak in the peaceful atmosphere of the fjord.       

After an eventful day, we return to Alta. There may still be time for a last look at the Northern Lights Cathedral, which especially shines in the evening light during the dark winter months.

This journey takes you to the charming fishing village of Storekorsnes, nestled in the beautiful Altafjord. Departing from the port of Alta, you’ll board the comfortable vessel Sea Runner, embarking on a scenic cruise through the fjord, surrounded by beautiful mountains and the chance to spot wildlife such as eagles and dolphins. Accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, you’ll hear interesting stories and learn about important landmarks along the way. After approximately one hour, we’ll arrive at the quaint village of Storekorsnes. Here, we’ll go ashore to meet the king crab and enjoy lunch before we head back to Alta

Nyksund is perhaps one of the most well known places in Vesterålen. Situated offshore, it was once the most prosperous place in Vesterålen, then abandoned and later again rebuilt. Today, Nyksund is a witness of the great fishing era of the last century.

After a guided tour, where we learn about the secrets of this place, there is plenty of time to explore the village yourself and perhaps meet some of the locals, who are always happy to chat. Coffee and cake in a coffee shop of your choice is included in the tour price. On the way there and back, we will pass beautiful landscape.

About the tour:
An exciting tour to experience the history and culture of Vesterålen up close. The paths in Nyksund are not paved but easy to walk on. In winter it can be very slippery. Due to the parking situation and the acceptance of the locals, no more than 2 busses are recommended at the same time. Between mid-June and mid-August there should be no busses sent to Nyksund between 12:00 and 16:00. At that time Nyksund is very busy, there is hardly any parking space and on the narrow road busses tend to cause traffic jams which can lead to a delay of up to 60 minutes.

Busses are not included in this offer. Coffee and cake can be booked. For visits to the off-season we can guarantee that there will be open toilets and at least one open restaurant in Nyksund for an extra charge of NOK 1000,- per bus.

Join finnmark moods on a whale watching tour in the Altafjord, operated by a local company based in Alta. The tour starts from our central meeting point in Alta harbour, where you will be welcomed by our experienced guides.

On board Sea Runner, you can enjoy a warm indoor area with seating and a toilet, as well as tea, coffee and cookies during the tour. There is also space on deck for those who prefer to watch the whales and the surrounding nature outdoors. Our guides share insights about the fjord, local life and wildlife while keeping an eye out for whales and other marine animals.

The tour takes place during the main whale season from October to January, when migrating herring attracts orcas and humpback whales to the fjord. Together with our captain, we search for these animals in their natural environment.

Whale sightings cannot be guaranteed, but the Altafjord offers rich marine life and beautiful scenery. With a limited number of guests on board, the tour has a calm and comfortable atmosphere.

In winter, whales come to the herring-rich fjords in northern Norway to hunt. This is a unique opportunity to experience the whales up close while exploring the beautiful Fjords of northern Norway. You will get to enjoy the beautiful winter skies, while surrounded by mountains and the fjords wildlife.

We adjust the start point of this trip to where the whales have last been seen to maximize your chance of seeing them. This can mean that we first have to drive for up to 1 hour to get to our harbor. Once on the boat we will make our way out into the fjords to look for humpback whales and Orcas. We will keep a safe distance and turn off our boat engines to minimize the disturbance to the whales. The whales are just as curious about visitors as we are about them, so they will most likely come and swim around our boat.

Changes can be made regarding weather and light conditions. Wear warm clothes and shoes according to the season and arctic climate. Please note that while we try our best, we can not guarantee that we will actually see whales on the trip. The season start and end date can be adjusted according to whale migration patterns. This trip is not recommented for those with back problems of if you are pregnant.

Recently, whales have been appearing in Alta Fjord. They have migrated further north, giving us the opportunity to observe them in our area. The two most common species in Alta Fjord are sperm whales and orcas, but there are also good chances of seeing porpoises and hourglass dolphins.

Experience an exciting King Crab Tour from Fiskerihavna (harbor) to the crab field in Alta Fjord with Icecube of Aurora. Join us on a 2,5-hour tour and witness the capture of the popular King Crab. The King Crab is caught in a box-shaped trap called a “pot,” which is then hoisted up from the sea and onto the boat. You can observe the captain at work, as he has done this many times before.

Ice Cube of Aurora is a local tourist fishing boat, engaging in adventurous trips in the Alta fjord. This trip goes from Urnesbukta to the crab field in Alta fjord. We will pull ut the tub with king crab, you will get to hold the king crab, and you can take picutres.
