A winter cruise on Alta fjord can be a magical experience. Sure, it's cold, but the cold weather is host for some incredible natural sights. "Smoke" on the water as the cold air freezes the moist air over the fjord, a chance to see some early northern lights after the extra-short days... and now, whales! The whales have extended their natural habitat close enough to Alta that we can now offer whale watching tours. And this tour gives you a chance to see whales in Alta's personal, small-group style.
Hop on the boat with your experienced captain and just a few others. You can choose your departure time: will you go out in mid-morning to maximize your daylight time, or choose early afternoon to combine whale watching in twilight with an extra chance to see some afternoon northern lights on your way back to port? Either way, the magic of the arctic will show itself in many ways along the journey. You might even hear some history and stories about World War 2 in and around Alta Fjord, or some good fishing stories.
The tour includes the cruise and hot drinks along the way. Transport from and back to downtown Alta can be arranged for an extra charge; lunch can also be ordered. Contact us for details. Please understand that the northern lights, whales and sea mist are all natural phenomena, and you may or may not see them!
