Alta is a small arctic town (although we are the BIGGEST small arctic town in Norway's northernmost county) but there is a lot to learn about and see here. Come with us on a walking tour around city center and let us show you!

The tour begins at Alta's tourist office, just across the street from the AMFI shopping center. From there we will walk over to the Northern Lights Cathedral, probably Alta's best-recognized landmark. You'll tour the church and the fun BorealisAlta northern lights exhibit there, and then travel from one end of town to the other. Along the way, you'll hear about the history of the northern lights in Alta, dogsledding races, why there is a statue labeled July 22, 2011, slate workers, feng shui architecture... AND MORE! It's hard to believe we can pack all this into a two-hour tour, but we will try our best.

The tour includes the guided walk, entrance and guiding in the Northern Lights Cathedral, and entrance to the BorealisAlta exhibit. During peak seasons, the tour may have regularly scheduled times, but we can always arrange for tours at other times with a little advance notice, and if you drop in at the tourist office there's a chance we can just go out right away if you'd like.
