Come and join us on a Ultimate Dog Sledding Expedition into the wild arctic plateau. Get away from the "regular" world in a unique way that only a very few people will experience! Our 6-day dogsledding tour involves a half day of preparation and learning and four days on the trail.
Besides the first day, this entire dogsledding expedition take place on Norway`s largest plateau, Finnmarksvidda. The trails you follow with your dogs team take you through some of the finest remote Arctic areas in Norway, passing ice-covered lake and rivers. On this expedition we drive from one mountain lodge to another, always with a bed to sleep in at night.
Arrive at Holmen Husky in the afternoon (we can pick you up in the city center or at the airport). Get to know the dogs and learn about the equipment – all hands-on, of course! – and then take a short afternoon sled trip to practice. In the evening, enjoy dinner at the kennel, relax in the outdoor jacuzzi or/and sauna if you like, and spend the night in our luxury tipi bungalows to prepare for your upcoming adventure.
We journey between mountain cabins that are set out in the wilderness for travelers. Each day’s run spans around 30 km. Accompanied by guides and their dogs, you will drive your own dog team each day through the snowy and ruggedly beautiful countryside, stopping now and then for lunch, side activities or just to take a break. Each evening at the cabin, we’ll tend to the dogs and then relax over dinner, conversation and something good to drink.
On day 5 we return to the starting point of our journey on the Finnmark plateau and back to Holmen Husky Lodge. Here you dinner awaits you and your the last night at the lodge. In the morning, we’ll serve breakfast before returning you to the airport or your accommodations in Alta, full of stories and memories and pictures of your exciting adventure.
If you like, we can add side trips now and then to the expedition, such as a stop at a Sami reindeer camp. If you would like to change the itinerary or add more activities, please get in touch! The final price of the tour will depend on the activities and itinerary you choose. If you have fewer than 4 people in your group, send us a request and we will try to find another group that you can travel with. We will have fixed departure dates in 2018.
The weather CAN become extreme in this part of the world. Holmen Husky Lodge reserves the right to change the itinerary or cancel the tour if the weather conditions appear unsafe.
