Dogsledding is popular throughout northern Scandinavia, and it is especially important for Alta. The city is the host for the start and finish of the Finnmarksløpet, Europe’s longest dogsled race whose 1000+ kilometer distance takes mushers almost all the way to the Russian border and back.
On this tour, participants will be welcomed by Trine Lyrek, a veteran dog musher with years of experience competing in the Finnmarksløpet and Iditarod races. With Trine, guests will meet her dogs and learn about the equipment used in dogsledding, and hear stories about raising and competing with the racing dogs. The dogs are tremendous athletes and hard workers, but they are also very well-mannered and cuddly, and they love all the attention that the visitors bring.
After dog snuggles (maybe even puppy snuggles!), stories, pictures and light refreshments, the guests will return to Alta.
