Alta Canyon (called Sautso in the Sami language) is northern Europe’s largest canyon, and the scenery is perfect both for taking pictures and just enjoying the view. This tour extends AC200 (access to the canyon plus time to visit the nearby dam) to include a visit with a Sami reindeer herder family, with lunch provided.

The guests will gather in a traditional Sami tepee (called a “lavvo”) and sit around a crackling campfire. Lunch will be served (a traditional reindeer-and-vegetable stew called “bidos”) as the hosts explain about Sami culture and traditions and demonstrate “joiking”, the chant-like singing of the Sami people.

As with AC200, this tour requires about 200 meters of walking each way through the tunnel to the dam, first down and then back up again. The Sami visit does not require much extra walking, but it does involve sitting on reindeer skins on the ground, rather than on chairs.
